Woodoku by Tripledot Studios took the Sudoku grid and swapped the number-filling for something more physical: drag wooden block pieces onto a 9x9 board, clear a row, column or 3x3 box, and watch the wood vanish. How to play
You get three pieces at a time below the 9x9 board, each a different wooden shape from a single square up to five in a row. Drag one onto the grid, and on a phone the piece floats above your finger so you can always see where it lands. Prefer taps? Tap a piece, then tap a cell. On a keyboard, press 1, 2 or 3 to pick a piece, move it with the arrow keys and place it with enter.
Fill any row, column or one of the nine 3x3 boxes and it clears, and clearing more than one in the same move builds a combo multiplier. Once all three pieces are placed you get three more, and the run ends when nothing fits anywhere on the board. Every restart today replays the same daily piece sequence, so everyone in the world gets the same run, and your best score and day streak are saved on your device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to Woodoku
Grovegrid keeps the part of Woodoku that matters: the 9x9 grid split into nine 3x3 boxes, three pieces per hand, rows and columns and boxes that all clear the same way, and combos that reward planning two or three hands ahead. The piece mix aims for the same feel too, mostly friendly shapes with the occasional 3x3 square or five-in-a-row to force a decision about where to spend it.
We deliberately left a lot out. There is no theme unlock system, no daily reward calendar, no power-ups, and no cloud save carrying your score between devices. There are also no ads, which cuts both ways: you lose the polish that ad revenue funds, and you gain a session that never gets interrupted. Tripledot Studios has tuned its wood textures, sound design and difficulty pacing across years of updates, and we made no attempt to copy its look. Grovegrid uses its own flat, canvas-drawn wood tones on a light board.
So when should you get the real thing? If you finish a run here and immediately start another, the full game is worth the install. Woodoku plays offline, its theme packs and daily challenges give you more than an endless score chase, and your progress follows you between sessions. Our version is the quick fix. Tripledot’s game is the habit.

Once the page has loaded, the game makes no further network requests, so it keeps working through connection drops. For a proper offline game, install Woodoku itself, which plays fully offline after install.
Why does a 3x3 box matter as much as a row or column?
Because it gives you a third way to clear space on a board that fills up fast. A completed row or column needs nine cells in a straight line, but a completed 3x3 box only needs its own nine cells filled in any pattern, so boxes tend to close out before lines do. The winning habit in both Grovegrid and Woodoku is the same: keep at least one box near-empty as a release valve, and spend awkward pieces on it before you run out of room.
